The construction of Parkway reaches a major milestone this month (November), as contractor Costain starts laying concrete at the lowest level of the scheme’s new basement car park.
Following several months of site preparation, Costain are now working hard to complete the first basement concrete slab some six metres below ground level. The two-level basement car park, which will be situated directly below the 475,000 sq ft scheme, will be constructed from nearly 2,500 tonnes of steel and over 40,000 tonnes of concrete.
On completion the car park will include a total of 734 spaces.
Parkway comprises a range of new shops plus a new Debenhams department store, restaurants, cafés and homes. It is set to provide a major boost to the town centre when it is completed in 2011.
