I'm trying to establish the facts of the TCP, as many people I have asked give differing accounts.

1. Is it a Community Interest Company or is it formed as a limited company or something else?

2. Where can I view the constitution? Have any of you actually seen a copy?

3. If it has no constitution, are the council legally allowed to give it money?

4. What is the criteria for membership? Is it members electing members as I believe? If it is an inclusive group of people, what mandate does it have?

5. Does the TCP publish it's accounts, and if so, where can I view copies of them from previous year?

6. Why is the TCP in charge of the BID process, and what involvement will they have in the operation of the BID if successfull? Is it true that the TCP will apoint the BID manager if it is given the green light?

I have serious concerns, the more I look into this group of unelected representatives, the power they have and the public money they recieve indirectly and directly, I'm surprised this has not been investigated more strenuously. How can they represent town centre businesses that they refuse admission to meetings?

Yes Richard you will never get on in politics in Newbury if you leak information. Keep the voters in the dark is the local motto! Let the hoi polio know what is going on will only end in tears you know?

Do you think there will be much retail left in Newbury after next year?   So moot question really.

I've already told Brian that I believe a single, democratic body would be more effective than the current secret society (TCP) and the NRA in it's present format.

A single, democratic body to represent the people of Newbury would be the Town Council then.

But if any of you could put in a word for me I'd love to be a freemason. Freemasonry opens doors. I mean, I was...I was a bit on edge just now, but if I were a mason I'd sit at the back and not get in anyone's way.

BrianB, is there any reference to me in any of the TCP meetings from this year? I can't find any, but I know from a council officer that a vote was taken on me personally. So why is it not minuted?

Sorry Richard it appears you were not worth a mention! From past experience any one that irks or does not toe the Supreme Leaders line are just ignored and it is hoped they just go away. They assume that any one with a complaint will get so frustrated with the system that they give up and go away. It is better for statistical reasonings for there to be no proper records!

Chairman for it using his design firm to do that shoddy design they knew wouldnt go ahead or even in time! easy £50,000 right there!

Yes, but the TCP were not the instigators of the pavilion plan. They were tucked up by WBC, by being given the details of the finalised plan and then told to keep it quiet. You can't blame the TCP for that one, it was a 100% deal between WBC and the NGT and the architect. Even the Town Council were not put in the picture. They were only given the details of the scheme when the public were given the details. It is the case that said architect was on the TCP committee but without a brief to discuss the plan with them until allowed to do so by WBC. He wasn't the chairperson by the way, that was at that time, Liz Chandler.

Anyone know where the saying "Getting hold of the wrong end of the stick" came from.

Can you blame people for being suspicious? This is the same organisation that took a vote on me as an individual (not included in the minutes) and also had various discussions about me at various meetings (again, not minuted). They say that none of this took place, but a retailer who was present told me it did. The council told me the vote took place too, as it was on CCTV and they admitted they had taken the vote to prevent information coming to me.

The bottom line is that if we all took the TCP at face value, and the council, we'd be right up the creek without a paddle.

Quite. RG - this isn't Spooks. The TCP is a dead duck, there's no point kicking it. The brand's toxic, as marketing chaps say. It will either become the BID, or it will be left to wither by WBC in the next round of cuts.

But should it become the BID? If it does, it taints the BID.

For once I find myself agreeing with User23.

I also have to question

This seems to implicate me. There are only 3 persons at TCP meetings that could be regarded as a retailer. Liz Chandler, currently chairperson of the BID, Jonathan Hopson, and me. I represent the retailers as Chairman of the NRA.

Which one of us was it?

I have my sources, and I'm certainly not going to out them on here. The days of the TCP are numbered anyway if you believe all the bleating from certain members that the funding is going to be stopped from the council's, so hopefully that means an end to unelected, undemocratic organisations meeting in secret and acting in this way.

I would love to chat with you Brian about the issues regarding Newbury Town Centre and whatever else, but then again I can't because I'm no longer allowed to attend the NRA. Thanks for that.

That won't do I'm afraid. Especially when said council is your arch enemy, allegedly. So did the whole council invite you in to drop this bombshell on you or was it an official representative of the council or a wildcard councillor wanting to wind you up. I think that you are bigging this up and I for one do not believe that the majority of the TCP members and probably the council are anything other than marginally interested in your ego trip as the representative of the local unsupported Labour party.
I'm afraid you are a publicity seeker and whilst you may have a point from time to time, the shepherd calling wolf too often, in the end loses credibility.
Not often I say it but User has my vote this time.

If you're going to make a public statement like that, it would be wise to have some evidence to support it.

I would expect that there was a certain amount of concern about who knew what cameras were working properly and which were not. As you seem to need to rush to the forums, the NWN and Newbury sound with every snippet of information you glean, the chances are that is why you were not given specific information. I would agree with Mr Day if I was in his position and it seems that the remaining members came to the same conclusion. You are your own worst enemy in that respect, turning things to your personal advantage with the electorate. By all means, keep the politics clean but be sure it is for the right reasons.
