The point I was making is that the current economic policy is not working. When Labour left office, we had some of the strongest economic figures in the world and falling unemployment. Figures are now at the highest level since 1996, when John Major was PM.
Labour did not cause the financial services to collapse. The Labour Party did bow to pressure from the Tories to relax some of the rules (demands made by both Cameron and Osborne) when they should have held firm. What I don't get is why a political party can change it's mind and call for more regulation a month before Lehman Brothers goes bust and then go into Government claiming it was all Labour's fault. What are they saying now? It's a "worldwide financial crisis". That's what it has been from day one. The only difference now is that when Labour got the country moving forward again, other countries followed it's lead. The Tories have cut too far and too fast, and ultimately have damaged the economy in the process.
I'm no economist, but sacking almost a million public service workers and then paying them housing benefit and JSA is not going to reduce the deficit. We have also lost all of the tax they generate, not only from job related taxes but spending power has also been reduced, so even though VAT went up, VAT revenue has gone down. This is why we are borrowing billions more than planned because there is now a massive hole in the budget. Private sectore workers are losing their jobs too, so much for the private sector "picking up the slack".
Nobody is calling for extra borrowing. What Labour want is to stop the corporation tax cut for bankers, tax their bonus pot, cut VAT back to 17.5% and even further for things like home improvements and a slow down in the deficit reduction plan. The more people who lose their jobs, the bigger problems are going to get for us. It's been nothing short of wreckless.
Make up your mind up. In one thread you're calling for people to be sacked, in another you're moaning about the amount of people out of work.
Yes, senior managers at West Berkshire Council who mislead the public and would rather sack hundreds of workers than do a proper review of council spending and cut things like executive salaries and share more services. These senior managers are also responsible for some god awful decisions which they would have been sacked for else where, but here in West Berkshire no action is ever taken against them.

Garvie is the biggest critic of WBC, not always correct but hits the bullseye quite often though, so that is the reason he is constantly User's number one target.
