See this: http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/News/Article.aspx?articleID=17947The answer is, obviously, yes. Of course its boring. That's what I like about it. I hope it stays that way. I love the fact that the two things that get people most worked up at Newbury.net are parking and shops. Having lived in three major cities including London, they certainly aren't boring. We lived in central London during the 1981 riots and experienced many emotions, but boredom wasn't one of them. |

Incidentally, I notice they haven't discussed this at 'the other place', as suggested in the article.
I refuse to re-register for it having been banned for reasons which weren't explained but I'd attempted to start a discussion about merging WBC with another district and that was clearly verboten. I guess it would hit the NWN's ad revenue and, right now, I'm told they need all the help they can get. Another possible explanation is that I referred to our dear leader as 'Corporal Jones'. |

Well, my read of the article is that it is, in my opinion, something of a compliment to both the cheese and Newbury. Boring we might both be but, the main thrust of the article justs says how important the two are. He says " just as the boring town in Berkshire is a place of light industry and mid-range technology firms - the sort of place where really hard unglamorous work gets done - so emmental is the workhorse of the cheese world. Because you cannot have a successful cheese fondue without it, and anybody who truly loves cheese will recognise immediately how important that is." He's not saying Newbury is 'cheesy', but draw your own conclusions. Anyway, wait till the Parkway opens, there will be so much excitement that we will probably come up smelling of gruyères roses http://www.guardian.co.uk/life.....-cheeses?INTCMP=SRCHfor the full article. |

Perhaps they don't want their forum to become just a pro-WBC / anti-WBC infested forum. Not everyone wants to eat, breath or sleep WBC issues all the time no matter which side of the fence they sit on. |

Well done for bringing it up though. Until now they hadn't really been mentioned in conjunction with this. Threep. |

Congratulations for your excellent attempt at veering this interesting topic into one involving WBC. Must be a record. I reckon you are Mrs User. |

As he only does as he is told, I am quite sre he would never have risen to such dizzy heights.
I was onto the council the other day about something unrelated and when the chap said "of course it will then need to go before the Highways comitee" I said "i'm sure they will just do what they are told", he laughed - conspiritorially I thought.
Excuse spelling mistakes. I can't get this bloody ipad to work. |

In view of my poor spelling with this ipad, I am a littlereluctant to pick on others, but one of the posts on Newburytoday refers to the "sole" being ripped out of Newbury. I found that amusing. |

iPads make one's spelling worse? Not a feature Apple are advertising. |

Polymath finds Newbury a tad lack-lustre. No real story here is there?

You obviously didn't notice post number 2 containing these words I'd attempted to start a discussion about merging WBC with another district so an attempt at veering it off course was already made before mine. Toodle pip old bean. |

Just in case you missed it I did say "hadn't REALLY been started" and I believed him / her to be talking about ANOTHER forum rather than WBC per se. Thanks for bumping them up again though.

Yes let the Council get on with what it knows best. Don't let the Proles get it the way, all this consultation rubbish only confuses the issue, let WBC do what they do best dictate what is going to happen and only consult the taxpayers when the bills come in! |
