I reckon WBC made a huge mistake in the first place when they sold their car parks to SLI for £1 + £300k pa (though originally the figure was higher).

What they should have done was give them a 99 year lease at £300k a year ground rent - with rent reviews at appropriate intervals to keep up with inflation.

WBC, it seems, were so eager to get Parkway, they were vulnerable to the usual brinkmanship.

Let's face it,  W.B.C have been a** - raped by S.L.I. and are now too shy to admit it.

There'll be a fine collection of rubber seating rings given out in this years Secret Santa though.

Maybe it's a net figure. They'll have to have more green meanies on patrol, so that needs to be recouped.

What I don't understand is why, if WBC has lost £400k in two years on car parks, but is due to collect £300k a year from Parkway....why are we even talking about Sunday parking charges to raise £15k. It's clearly not necessary.

There are two other options they haven't considered
1. Reduce car parking to 50p an hour.....full car parks, people staying longer etc. It's been a real success in parts of Dorset.

2. Borrow the £150k to cover the shortfall, and pay back from the SLI money.

Council are already £50m in debt, maybe more now.

It is only £1 - if you can't afford it surely you wouldn't be shopping anyway

I don't think it is a matter of being able to afford it or not.

Indeed, some people seem to be making a fuss over nothing. No change there then.

You think if someone cannot afford a £1 (which was the original premise), then they are guilty of making a fuss?

Quite frankly the whole thing "p's" me off !   There was a similar fuss, a while back, about charging £1 to park at the Nature Discovery Centre. Some woman started a campaign and she actually won. For goodness sake where else can you take the kids out for a quid ?  The money was suppose to pay for the car parks, which are a complete mess (it is called muddy lane afterall). Now we will all be fronting the bill very shortly I believe, because some "tight-wad" thinks its her god given right to park on a nature reserve for nowt.

If we had it your way, there would be no where to go without having to pay at the point of use.
