It never ceases to amaze me, the calibre of the reporting on our local newspaper. Their grasp of the English language coupled with spelling gaffes is unbelievable.

This is taken from a recent article on their website:

"The seeds have been sewn for the idea of a community project, but have not yet beared fruit"

Indeed it is. While on the subject, the word you are using is more correctly spelled 'gaffe'. 'Gaff' has a number or meanings - see http://www.thefreedictionary.com/gaff.

No need. I would say that you are free to make spelling/grammar mistakes all you want. Probably not though if you are employed by a newspaper to write articles for publication. That's the difference.

The management of the NWN obviously disagree - mistakes in spelling and grammar are so commonplace that they obviously aren't bothered.

Would you think that the problem is with the spell chucker checker they are using. The spelling may be OK but the context for that wood word could be wring wrong

Doesn't he/she delete anything on this forum?

They did change one of the words, but still don't realise the difference between sewing and sowing.

Of course the answer might just they themselves aren't up to the job and simply don't know enough about the English language. Certainly not much of an advert though is it?

It was not my intention to criticise you but to make the point that correct spelling can often make a difference.

I have been a professional writer in the past, so I have a vested interest in good English. One of the more common errors that gets up my nose is the apparent inability of (presumably) well-educated people to differentiate between the correct use of  'lose' and 'loose'.

Because there was interest in the posting I decided not to delete it (You do have the facility to delete/alter your own posting - ask user23)

One of the biggest mistakes that annoys me, both in speech and in written text is.

"It must of been" instead of "It must have been". But then I did have the privilege of a grammer skool edyoucation.

One of the most annoying things in modern english is how people say they have sent a text.  Apparently 'texted' is now a word
Not in my book it's not!
Maybe i'll send a letter, then I will have letterred it!
