Quite. Not so long ago, a major departmental head was seconded to WBC while the vacancy was organised. He got the job AND kept the T&Cs of his old contract. 3 years later, he announced he was retiring at 53 and he was ready for his six figure 'golden goodbye'. WBC checked the contract, found out he was right, and duly plundered the reserves to pay him off.
What on earth are we paying the legal department for? Library roof fails, no penalty clause so you and I pay; faults in the fancy town centre brickwork, we pay; stupid, costly employment contracts, we again pay; no penalty clauses inserted into CCTV contracts .... I could go on, but it is too depressing. |
