I have some really good home made Dandelion wine here. Saves going out to pub and spending money. Also some of the company in a lot of pubs locally need a lot to be desired.

As good as your Dandelions may be..there is nothing like visiting a good old english pub for some banter etc...you just need to be a little more selective by the sound of it..In fairness there are some around that are trying to make a go of it in these difficult times, and they should be supported! Mine's a Pint!
I do agree with you when you say it can be expensive to go out though, and some of the landlords/Managers etc certainly don't know how to look after their beer..but there are some who do, and I don't mind paying the price for a good ale kept correctly...It's beauuuutiful!
Sorry, digressed a bit from the subject here.

It is insulting and demeaning to call an excellent pub like The Swan Inn 'a drinking hole'.

Quite....it's like calling your rotten old draincleaner 'cider'.

You go to the pub alone & join in other people's conversations?

Of course - if the other people are open to conversation.

The problem with forums like this is that they attract people of low intelligence, with IQs struggling to reach double figures, whose idea of a debate is to hurl personal insults at people whose opinion differs from theirs.

I suppose one must feel sorry for them.

Come on BM - you dish it out, take it like the curmudgeonly pedant we know and love.
