I went to the BID meeting in the town hall last night.

Its the same old faces from the secret society (the town centre steering group). They are losing their funding from WBC and are looking to refinance themselves by a levy on the business rates.

They can count me out for a start.

I see that my original posting has been changed to remove the names.

Does this mean that the Newbury Mafia are able to infiltrate/influence the postings on this forum?

Are the names of those on the Town Centre Steering Group not public then? Blimey!

I thought it unfair (as well as possible legal implications) to single out individual names and refer to them as the Town Centre Mafia.

Brian is right, it's wise not to name individuals as "Newbury Mafia" inferring they're associated with organised crime unless you have some evidence to back it up, which I very much doubt you do.

Having said that, this site is run by a member of the TCP I suspect in part to support their activities.

BrianB, could you not remove suggestions of being local mafia rather than names? I think it's important that all information is made available, including the names of those introducing the bid.

Why not actually go down the Mafia route?

The heads of the Five Families (and in some case their successors) always used nicknames:

Bananas
The Chin
Three Fingers
Teflon
Bull
Junior
Gaspipe
Barney
Little Nick
Big Joey
Vinny Gorgeous
The Ear

So why not just use the nicknames that others have already given to various members of the T.C.P?

Nancy
Radio Rental
Divvy
Billy no-mates
Lombard*
Muggles
Pork Meister
Moose
Twinkle
Hermy*
Bore Machine
Dipstick.
Cup Cake.

Who could possibly work out who was who from that list?

Threep.

* believed to be an acronym - Lots Of Money But A Real Dick

* believed to be short form of Hermesetas - dissolves in hot water.

No idea!!! I think from a legal point of view concerning this site, the names of those on the TCP and the phrase "mafia" cannot be substantiated and should therefore not be made. But the details of those who serve on the TCP and those responsible for the Bid should be public for all to see whether it's a forum or not. By having the names public, it allows those small independent traders to approach the individuals with concerns, and if those people are happy to promote the bid, they should be open to questions on it.
