They wanted it 2 floors higher as well.
Then they (the council) moan about the height of the telephone exchange
I bet Griffin towers gets built in Kings Road as well. Isn't the Faraday Plaza going to be of similar height? |

I hate that monstrosity in progress. It totally blocks my view of Donington Castle |

Good old 'perspective'...... The developers favourite when it comes to artist's impression of scary new buildings.... In one view you're looking down on the thing and it doesn't look quite so threatening (the developers favourite) and in your photo you're looking up it's nose.... This view shows it as being on 8 levels (as per the photo and earlier artists impression) but again perspective lets the tower look small coz it's at the far end of shot |

You're saying when you get closer to it, it looks bigger?
Strange that, isn't it? |

Of course since the approval of the second anchor store, that fairly pleasant view is out of date replaced by this monstrosity.

You mean the 21st century tower blocks the view of the 14th century one? I imagine the locals were just as nonplused back then..... |

I wonder how coveted the 21st century 'tower block' will be in 600 odd years time. |

Highly I'd think. Donnington was just a run of the mill military establishment when new. |

No any old scrote could build a castle. This one was licensed by the then King of England. |

Any building which survives for 600 years will be prized.
All medieval castles had to have a license. Still did not make them anything other than purely functional buildings built with no concession to aesthetics. |

I suggest the impotence to the King was greater than the importance of a bloody shopping mall to Newbury today. Contrary to your opinion, I'd be staggered if this current shopping carbuncle is still standing in 600 years time. |

Is it true that the king was impotent or was that a Freudian slip. |

Your answer to the question implies you think it would! |

I think if it did survive more than 150 years it would become a well regarded local building. Surving that long would increase its chances of surviving much longer. Problem is I don't think architects build with this in mind. They design down to cost. The result is little what we would call 'classical' architecture. |

I have to agree with you here, but I understand that materials are recyclable. As building requirements change, this is understandable. |
