Newbury 2011 and beyond
A lone figure in Victoria Park
Trudging homeward before its dark
Developers have taken over our Market Town
Traditional shops are closing down
Victoria Park is Newbury’s open space
But now a big decision we must face
Do we need a pavilion at tremendous cost?
Or will this be another asset we have lost? Please feel free to compose and add your own poem to this thread |

My information indicates that this pavilion will be built no matter how well organised the protest. It is being deliberately kept very low key at the moment to extole the virtues of the Wharf project of which the pavilion is just "a bit on the side".
There are also plans to move WBC offices out of Newbury. Guess where they will be moving to? |

I would be interested to know where that information came from. I suspect that WBC will do their best to drive the project on but I believe that they will have difficulty providing the financial business plan to support it for some years yet. As far as your last question goes, anywhere that RG can't get at them will do. |

Victoria Park
A pavilion planned for Victoria Park So councillors can quaff wine and ogle the art. Get rid of the swings we can’t have noise No squealing children with their horrid little toys. Peace and tranquility the order of the day Take the tennis courts, bowls club and bandstand away. No football pitch, that is far too low, Not the right scene near a pavilion don’t you know? Cut down the trees and tarmac over the space Our cars need to park, a long walk we can’t face. When it’s completed we will have a good lark When we’ve developed Victoria Park? No don’t ask questions it just has to be We know exactly what is best for thee. We really must have this pavilion in this place On the last of Newbury’s green open space. |

Ms Bale with great vigour confessed
She was tasked an unusual request
A pavilion her mark
To find a great park
So Victoria’s now dispossessed

Take the same picture when it's a bit warmer and you will see a different story. |

I would like to see you out there with your tennis kit on in that weather? Wonder how many green spaces were being used at the same time? Not many? Lets build over them then? Come on User do take your medicine there's a good chap? |
