Although car drivers are (mainly) able to 'look over their shoulder' on the left side to see if cyclists are approaching on thier inside, before turning off of the roundabout, this is not so for vans and trucks, which have no rearward side windows.
Also a dangerous place is being northbound approaching Bart. Street, at the traffic lights, waiting to turn left into Pound Street. Lights change to green, you are, and have been indicating to turn, your rearward view is partly restricted by a larger vehicle behind, and a cyclist comes tearing up the inside to go straight on, just as you are moving off. Their intention is to jump the lights before turning green, hopefully before the time they reach them, so their pace distates this.
One day, someone will be seriously injured at this junction, if not killed. I think the only reason it has not done so yet, is that there are few cyclists on the road at this point, but of those that are, most ignore the lights. |
