There's clearly too much of a gap between the retail events religious festivals of Christmas and Easter.

Perhaps they need to promote an event that happens before Easter more. Cadbury's Pancake Sauce anyone?

Greenham Common you are sooooo "down to earth"      No problem really, except personally I don't like my life to appear rushed if you know what I mean ? There are 4 glorious months before easter eggs come into play.

My Gran used to work for Rowntree Mackintosh many year ago (fab Gran for a child to have too !!)  By the time we eat those eggs they are at least a year old already. Then there are the "bits" in nougat but that's another story .........................!

In that case it could be argued that your life isn't rushed - you have 4 months to make your purchase rather than rushing at the last minute!

Why has nobody mentioned Hot Cross Buns which seem to be available for most of the year?

However I agree and would like to see both Christmas and Easter goods out only a month in advance.

For my point of view the difference in simple - I like hot cross buns and will happily eat them at any time of the year, but would not be at all unhappy if I never saw another Easter egg.

I would say however, that the manufacturers/suppliers are as much (if not more so) to blame as the retailers.  I purchased 50% of my christmas decorations in June simply because if I didn't I wouldn't get the ones I wanted ! This does have an impact on cashflow though, as the goods sit in boxes for months, so it stands to reason they go out on the shelves as soon as possible, personally for me that is October, but it would be a low key display and not "in your face" in the window.

Incidentally there is a trade fair at the beginning of December in Harrogate called "Simply Christmas" and the goods available are for the following christmas ........
