Prices at that new sweetshop in Northbrook Street are shall we say a little exorbitant.

I suppose it is a luxury that we don't have to buy. However business appeared to be brisk for them on Saturday.

Of course it's exorbitant ! You are not paying for the sweets - you are paying their exorbitant rent - you have to sell a lot of sweets to cover that.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. Another is to suggest that if you keep prices reasonable then you'll shift more units and people will keep coming back, rather than going to have a look, maybe buying something for the novelty factor and then deciding that it's too expensive for regular purchases.

Great shop. There's some wonderful things in there. Didn't notice that prices were high. Bought some lovely stocking fillers.

Part of running a business is having a business model. It seems a very attractive place to me. Good luck to them.

So are you saying sweets are not a novelty ??
Personally I wish them the very best, and can't wait to go and get some sherbet pips, (and some sherbet lemons) but know full well the sweets themselves cost literally a few pence.

This is the only way to survive in retail these days. Sell something that costs pence for £. Such as coffee.....

It has to be a happy balance between price & gratification. If the percieved price exeeds the expected gratification there won't be a sale. Plus you also need to be selling something which is still an impulse purchase, or something which can't be mail orderd.

Exactly; £12.50 split three ways is £2.50 each... seems OK to me if they are those big mugs or glasses.

4 fruit shoots in Tesco about £1 - £2.25 each in a certain coffee shop is a liitle greedy  ?? That equates to about £8 for the pleasure of sitting down and drinking them . . . that of course is if you can find a seat.

To make a fair comparison, you should compare like for like.  How much is this drink in other coffee shops, restaurants, etc?

Fruit Shoot market research not really high on my agenda !!

Back to the sweets - went in there and thought it was very nice and not too pricey. Only disappointment was that it's smelled of varnish not sweets

Beer in pubs is about 4 time the price it is in the supermarket. It's an unfair comparison to compare their prices and those of the supermarket.
