Enterprise has sublet to a pubco that also owns the Waggon & Horses and King Charles, and now Catherine Wheel.
Interesting that Newbury Society didn't object to name change (according to planning docs).

Yep...it's Enterprise (I do believe) behind this one.
Threep.
Yeah - Enterprise own the Jack of Newbury - but they are not a brewery, unlike Greene King |

I don't think there is much the planners can do about the name - only the signs it's written on. |

It was easy to work up a campaign against renaming an pub the Pig in Clover - regardless of what it was called before.
Slightly pedantic point but it was the "Pig in Hiding" that they briefly changed the name of the Castle to. See here on West Berks CAMRA site: http://www.westberkscamra.org.uk/pubs.htm |

Yes, I noticed that a few days ago - and hoped others wouldn't! Not that the pig was very well hidden, the plastic pigs attached to the outside also had something to do with the objections. I think the slogan was 'come in and pig out' |

The reality is that few people care about the Catherine Wheel being renamed the Jack of Newbury - let's face it virtually no one complained about the Bricklayers becoming the Purple Lounge. CAMRA used to campaign about name changes, perhaps even they recognise that a name change is a small price to pay if it means the pub's survival for a few more years.
Re-reading an old post (sad or what?) it occured to me that no one complained about the Bricklayers' Arms becoming the Bricklayers either. Does anyone remember when this change took place? |

Then again I am forgetting the Rat & Parrott (wishful thinking - plenty of complaints there) - presumably the Bricklayers' Arms became the Rat & Parrott which became the Bricklayers. |

Which will shortly be under new management again, so fingers crossed for a return to the Bricklayers. PS if the Pig In Hiding's bad, what about the Bacon Arms. |

I'd prefer the Bricklayer's Arms - or the Half Moon.

Well the Bacon Arms used to be the Maidenhead ... and it hasn't got any plastic pigs stuck on the outside. |
