Unfortunately when an old person dies their relatives move in to clear the "junk" in the loft. Invariably this means that a treasure trove of old photographs and postcards are tossed in the skip and lost forever.

If you ever find yourself in this situation, please give a thought to the possibility that some of these old photographs could be images that would help to compile a pictorial history of Newbury with views that have never seen the light of day.

This is quite an old thread, but I couldn't agree with you more. Whilst I have many Newbury snaps they are mostly un-postable for privacy reasons.

I do have and (I know it will probably bore) a fair Youtube following of the old man's cine films.
Mostly from about 1950 to 1960. For years they were in a cupboard under the stairs. We never listened to the instructions on how to use the projector. My elder brother had a chum who had discovered a new hobby! At great he length transferred it all to VHS. Well that had to be moved on and some 10 years later I managed to transfer the whole lot onto PC. Which after a lot of editing I posted.

I was amazed at the number of replies. From all over the globe. California to Brazil, Norway to Bavaria.
People who knew me,my family, and the old dad.

Protect everything is my comment.Keep it backed up on to the latest format.

Sadly not. The 2 youtubes I had posted of Newbury scenes ...  Burghclere and snowballing in Adbury Park, I had to wipe because of 3rd party infringement.
Sony went for me.
I still have the original Digital mastercopy but only on DVD, Need to redo them. All my own edited versions were mysteriously wiped in a matter of moments one day. Had to buy another PC.
The ones that remain are still on youtube on my account "cje49". But all are from far away places.
ce.

Presumably because of use of copyright music. Sony can't prevent you posting silent home movies on Youtube.

Correct and quite rightly so.. I am banned in Germany for use of a few minutes of Jan Gabarack.
I had fun though for a time.

An obscure Nico song had to go. I will re-edit one day and post silent moments! I decided Sony was too big to ignore.
Google allows you to post but takes the right to advertise.

That's what Sony thought when they went after the Playstation3 hacker. Didn't reckon on his mates wiping the smile off their faces.
