I was in town last night and there was an unpleasant smell in Mansion House Street, the Market Place and the Wharf. Has anyone else noticed this?
Archie, I have removed the four letter word from your posting. Please refrain from being so descriptive.
I was in the Wharf this morning just before 8.00am and I have to agree with you. The problem is normally caused by one of the catering establishments blocking the drains with fat and grease. Very difficult to trace until things start to back up and overflow.

Thank you for your email advising of the unpleasant odour that you have noticed.
Unfortunately there is a generalised agricultural odour around Newbury and adjacent areas today. Weather conditions are not assisting in a quicker dispersal.
I trust that you will notice an improvement with a change in weather conditions.

OK so where is this agricultural odour emanating from? There is no agricultural operation that I am aware of that is anywhere near the Market Place.

You need to get out a bit. we live bang slap in the middle of an agricultural operation. It's all round us, we live in the country so farm and manure smells are part of life around here. It was really strong in Kingsbridge Rd today as well. The main offender, but I'm not pointing a finger at him this time is the guy who farms either side of the Hermitage Road (B4009) who is an organic farmer and sprays with organic muck. (S**t to Archie.)
All through the summer of 2009, the temporary toilets in Bartholomew Street (provided during construction of the cinema) were being blamed for this odour.
