Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to an assault which happened in Newbury on Saturday 26th June.

The incident happened in Bartholomew Street, near to the Nag’s Head pub, between 12.30pm and 1pm.

The victim, a 22-year-old man from Newbury, was approached by another man who got out the passenger side of a white Ford Transit van.

After a short altercation, the man from the van punched the victim several times in the face and head.

The victim suffered bruises to his face.

PC Dave Kilbane, from Newbury police station, said: “It is clear that the offender and the victim know each other. This was not a random attack.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who has any information about this incident that can help us progress out investigation.”

The offender is white, 20-30 years old, 6ft1ins-6ft2ins, with a stocky build and he was wearing a white T-Shirt and blue jeans. He was a passenger in a van which has ‘04’ in the registration plate and ladders on the roof.

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact PC Kilbane on 0845 8 505 505.

Alternatively, if you do not want to speak to police or leave your name, please contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

Why not speak to the victim then and if he isn't saying anything, don't waste any more police time.

They must have - first thing in such cases is to see if the victim wishes to press charges. Probably where the description of the van & assailant came from too.

It seems that the victim is not being forthcoming.

Only speculating (like everyone else) but would have thought they need eye witness accounts to back up the victims, or alledged attackers story.  Remember there is no CCTV in this area as there is no crime.

In the way that it seems, according to the police, it was not a random attack and that the victim and aggressor knew each other. So if the victim is not offering any information as to the identity of the attacker whty are we wasting time discussing it and why are the police wasting time pursuing it.

Perhaps the victim is afraid of retribution and is keeping quiet. But the police know who the aggressor is and would like to prosecute him as he is a danger to the public. More ill informed speculation.

Exactly. The victim could know the attacker only by first name & not know his address.
