This is a KC-97L (The L model had two jets as well as props to give it more speed) at Greenham on Aug 23 1970.

I think it must have been there for the major Flintlock exercise held there that year.

The control tower is just off camera to the right. This shot must have been taken through the fence at Burys Bank road.

Surprising that the taxiway isn't immaculately clean and weed-free. Wierd observation I guess.

You would have got a better view standing between the metal rails, the number then would have been impressed on your forehead.

You certainly have a way with words-I thought this site was vetted...that sounds almost like a threat!
Spose you are just annoyed you missed it!

No, it would have been entirely voluntary on your part. I'm not annoyed that I missed whatever it was as I hadn't planned to see it but I did see Bittern this morning.

No it's 60019 and No, it is now in British Rail green. Sir Nigel Gresley and of course Mallard are both in blue.

No sorry, that was uncalled for..I respect people with a serious hobby, and recognise what a pleasure that moment must have been!
Apparently though the Bittern was originally garter blue, and that was its correct number..4464.

Your last is correct, although it isn't anything like a hobby for me, just an interest probably from having grandchildren who can see, without my coaching, the pleasure and visible power of steam engines but also from my youth when every train on the rail was steam. King class GWR trains roaring through Newbury at full tilt pulling the Old Cornish Riviera express. Maybe when I retire I might get a bit more involved but at the moment I have too many other things going on.
