Advance warning for anyone using the Robin Hood tomorrow morning (Monday).
The lights have been extinguished following an accident in the southbound direction where one column of traffic lights has been demolished and left in a crumpled heap on the central reservation.
The lights on the junction of Western Avenue and the southbound entry from the Vodafone roundabout are still operational, but changing every 10 seconds.
Rather fortunate that Shaw Road isn't due to close until 15th Feb.
If anyone has any further details or photographs, please post them on this thread. |

The lights have been out since 9.30am, with the Northbound one demolished at around 9.15. The southbound ones were demolished at 10.15 with some idiot thinking that the could just keep going and not give way to traffic coming from the right (or in fact any traffic). There have been plenty of signs clearly showing that the light s are not working. I am suprised that WBC have not called in the engineers early to rectify the problem prior to Monday morning. |

In the 'old days', The Beak would direct traffic. I wonder if any would know how to do that these days. |

I think they found out a few years back that when they didn't turn up the traffic sorted itself out better than when they did. After that they quite rightly gave up bothering! |

Nah...they'll blame WBC for incorrect signage and then announce that they'll "never come shopping in Newbury again"..after all, just because you ignore or fail to see a few signs...you don't expect to have your car written off do you?.. Threep. |

I think the lights actually not working is the biggest clue that they are...not working! Like I said, I think it used to be a policeman's duty to direct traffic under these circumstances. Not any more it seems. |

I was nearly wiped out by someone who did the same thing this morning on my way in. Two cars came straight off the westbound A4 and onto the roundabout at speed. I had to brake hard to avoid being hit. |

True, but they'll claim they were at the 'wrong height' to see. Threep. |

I have it from an "eye-witness" that one accident was at 5.30am Sunday, and alcohol was a factor. |

Threep.
Been over and around several times, biggest problem is the chancers who speed across having forgotten their give way to the right rule. Traffic seems to be flowing OK and the 339 Northbound this eve was the best I have ever seen it. If the lights from the A4 Eastbound and under the bridge had been knocked out I think it might have been another story. Those lights are making natural breaks in traffic flow further downstream. |

And thank heavens for it, that 'pulse' means there are at least regular breaks in the flow. According to the Council the lights were due to be repaired this afternoon. Anyone know if they were? Threep. |
