My guess was also around 1968, My first house in West Street cost £2,750 in 1967. I had as much trouble finding the deposit (10%) and getting a mortgage and making the payments as young first timers do to-day.

Think we all did.  Inflation increased the numbers but  house prices based on % of income do make it almost impossible for first timers today.  Back then starter homes were just over 3 X average pay (median).
