On another thread about the Kennet Centre murals, I have explained why I don't visit Newbury so often now. Here is another reason.
The other day I was walking through the Kennet Centre when my ears were assailed by a hideous noise. Over the speakers was coming the sound of some female shrieking a tasteless, rocked-up version of some so-called 'Christmas' song which was one of the most appalling examples imaginable of audio pollution.
Whoever it is in the Centre's management suite responsible for inflicting such gross stuff on the public under the excuse that 'It's Christmas!' should be locked up in a room and forced to listen to Barry Manilow for 12 hours a day for a week, then sacked!

a) It was not over the speakers b) Centre Management were not responsible for this event, c) Being locked up in a room for longer than a week would be welcome d) I've had to listen to a lot worse than Barry Manilow e) I'm afraid that would be unfair dismissal This should explain it to you ...... http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/News/Article.aspx?articleID=11881Happy Christmas Brewmaster |

Has anyone noticed the Christmas decorations and the display in Kennet Shopping & Leisure. No one has mentioned anything at all, so I am going to be presumptious and take it they are acceptable |

If no one's complaining you must be doing it right, you say? |

Well...
I was thinking the other day what a shame it was not to have a nice big tree in the centre of KS. I seem to remember there being one at Christmas when we first moved to the area. If I'm honest, I think that the stalls in the large open area outside TK Maxx make the place look like an indoor market, and a bit scummy when, in the past, I've always thought KS to be a fairly pleasant place to wander around. |

They've done the same thing in Reading's beautiful Broad Street Mall - tat stalls everywhere. |

I haven't noticed the decorations, but the practise of using dancing bears to draw customers in to your emporium of capitalism is both dangerous and abhorent. I'm disgusted that such a cruel, barbaric activity has been allowed to continue into what I hoped was a more enlightened time. |

The dancing bears are good. I think my daughter must have pressed the button about a dozen times! The Santa's grotto thing is wierd. Just a guy sitting around a picket fence in an unconvincing costume, and you can sit next to him for £3. At least that's what it looked like when I passed.
Like I said, it's a shame that there isn't a big tree in the centre (and I don't mean the one made out of fluorescent lights and silver foil), but it looked ok other than that. It's just a shame that there are a few empty units now, but then there's not much that KS can do about that. |

You sound just like User23! Good joke but it proves that saying something positive is like going to the dentist, people just can't 'bear' to do it! |

Dancing bears were popular with my little daughter as well, she hogged the button for a good five minutes. |

Santa's 'grotto' does look rather half-hearted. With the empty units, it would have been nice if one was taken advantage of to build a truly magical grotto. I'm not going to comment on the dancing bears, can't help feeling like you've put some personal energy into them? I've honestly, not noticed any other decorations One thing that does make me angry every time I walk through there atm though. Is the presence of that gold scam stall. Those gold buyers are parasites praying on the poor/desperate/stupid. For the benefit of those unaware of the dubiousness of those businesses I'll direct you to google http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en.....q=cash+for+gold+scam |
