Park Way Bridge, bathed in ultra violet light with the silhouette of one of the huge cranes on the nearby construction site in the background.

Newbury is undergoing major upheaval at the moment. Extensive roadworks are almost complete, the new Vue Cinema has opened in Market Street and the Parkway Shopping Centre is due to open for spring/summer 2011.

Maybe, but you could say that about every illuminated building in the UK, what a dull place our towns and buildings would be without some artificial light to enhance the subject for our visual enjoyment. I think the bridge looks really nice at night and is one of the few things, along with the town clock but apart from the cranes and the BT tower and Sainsbury car park that the drivers passing down the A339 can admire.

You can get a good view of the stars from the top of Combe Gibbet or Beacon Hill. The're both quite dark and light pollution is not excessive.

The lighting was originally put in as a temporary installation during a local event (probably a Spring Festival) and was kept when the public expressed a liking for it.
